Recently, in our Christian Life Hour we studied the letter of Jude, which tells us that on our own we are culpable not just for the evil things we do, but the evil manner in which we do things – the do-it-myself I-don’t-need-God attitudes we adopt. Even more plainly said by Paul, “…whatever is not from faith, is sin!” From the beginning, and affirmed in words recorded by Moses after, blood and death is required for the atonement of sins!

I am rescued by Jesus!

And yet God in His mercy did what the law could not!  He sent His son as an offering for sin, the man Jesus, God’s Christ, gave Himself as a ransom for all. He came not to be served, but to give His life as that ransom, the payment of a debt for sin no one else could pay.  One sacrifice for all, offered without blemish to God, obtained eternal redemption. It is for this reason Jesus Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, written in the hearts and minds of those who confess (willfully acknowledging in an all-encompassing, transformative way) Jesus as Lord and believe in their hearts that God did indeed raise Jesus, who claimed to be God from the dead.  For had Jesus been wrong, His words would have been truly blasphemous and worthy of death!

This is salvation – being ransomed, being rescued from the guilt of our sin and lawless deeds, in which God declares “I will remember them no more”.

This is what Jesus gave Himself for, that in Christ sin no longer holds us hostage, but that we are rescued.

Praise be to God for the great encouragement this brings us!
